Cash Register Ink Ribbons
Cash registers with non thermal printers use an ink ribbon or ribbon cassette to print an image onto a paper roll. There are 3 types of cash register printers; dot matrix, drum and mini printers. All of them use and impact process, pin heads push the ribbon onto the paper which in doing so produces the print, to stamp various characters onto to the till roll to make up the numbers and text.
Most ink ribbons are supplied as standard with a purple ribbon but you can purchase ones that are red and black with these types, for example, being used in a kitchen of a restaurant as special entries can then be highlighted in red so the chefs see them.
